ozBillo
Occasionally, in a dusty corner of a library, you may come across an explorer's journal or a letter by a settler, that mentions a rare Golden Wolf. They would describe a fanciful situation where this creature appears, almost out of thin air, and defends them against an attack by wolves or drifters. The image below is of a very old photo that supposedly shows a Golden Wolf quietly resting beside a settler. It is widely regarded as a fake. Changelog Spoiler Version 1.0.34 - the Golden Wolf will fight to remain the only one - new howling sound if another Golden Wolf is near - tweaked spawn settings (again) to ensure one Golden Wolf (hopefully) Version 1.0.33 - now sleeps on the grass mat - tweaked priorities to fix some strange behaviour! - tweaked spawn settings a tiny bit Version 1.0.32 - new excited sound when chasing hares - new sound when chasing chickens - only eats chickens when hungry - eats meat (not very often, and new chewing sound doesn't seem to be working) - added a grass mat (but he won't sleep on it for some reason) Version 1.0.31 - wolves will no longer seek The Golden Wolf. But, they still fight back! - added a new wriggle animation. Now he can scratch his back! Version 1.0.30 - removed birds entity I was testing... oops! Version 1.0.29 - drifters, wolves and hyenas will fight back - can be hurt by drifters, wolves and hyenas - increased health - only sleeps on hay beds and high fertility soil - included lie animation - add smiles to animations - new hurt sound Version 1.0.28 - a little more sitting - fix panting sound for distance Version 1.0.27 - tweaked player seeking behaviour - a little less sleeping Version 1.0.26 - fixed entities patch - added hares to entities patch - tweaked player seeking behaviour - changed animation during bark Version 1.0.25 - remove woldgen spawning to ensure only 1 GW Version 1.0.24 - added short bark sound Version 1.0.23 - seek player from further away - shorter sleeps - increased sensitivity to nearby threats Version 1.0.22 - tweaked nearby threat behaviour Version 1.0.21 - attacks hyenas - tweaked player seeking behaviour Version 1.0.20 - added changelog - added dig behaviour (may not work) - tweaked panting sound DownloadGolden Wolf v1.0.34.zip Edited March 9, 2021 by ozBillo 3
ozBillo
The Golden Wolf will - attack wolves and drifters - protect your farm from hares (if he's hungry) - eat your chickens - keep you awake at night with his incessant howling - and sit with you while you gaze at the moon But, he won't eat you Edited April 4, 2020 by ozBillo 1

The_Lazy_Warlock
This is really interesting! Does the wolf follow you around or just hang out around your spawn location?
ozBillo
He's drawn to the player and tends to hang out with you, but does his own thing a fair bit. He's still a wild creature at heart. He sleeps a lot during the day. Once, he was chasing drifters and got lost underground in a cave. I had to go searching for him. He doesn't despawn like regular wolves. There's only 1 Golden Wolf in the world, so look after him! I'm still tweaking his behaviour as I learn from playing with him. ozBillo
Wolfie chased drifters way down into the depths and got stuck. He kept fighting the never-ending horde. Mysterious Dr.X
Was wondering if there a way to feed it, other than letting it just eat rabbits, or does it heal on its own/from creatures it kills?
ozBillo
I'm working on a way to feed him, but it's a bit hit-or-miss and I can't get a sound to play while he eats. I'm not sure how he heals, yet. Trying to find a way to display his health. *edit* Okay, I know how to display his health, so I'll monitor it closely to see how he heals. He heals slowly over time. About 1 health point every 100 seconds or so. I'm not sure yet if eating makes a difference to his healing. Stefano Da Giau
I have found 2 of them lol I have the latest version of course, I had left one behind near a trader because I was running too fast, several days later one approached me near my base, I thought it was the same that found its way back, but when I got back to the aforementioned trader, the first GW i found ran back to me, now I got back to my base and the second also came in lol I guess I would fear nothing more in this playthrough ahahahah Edit: 8 hours later, and maybe less than a week in game later.. Met the third GW Since I really, REALLY don't want a golden wolves army, I at least resorted in luring the third one into a deep cave and left it there. But at this point when I will complete my chalet, the forge, the windmill, the tannery and whatever else, I will have likely something like 20 wolves.. Is it possible that this is related to having turned on my mods in an already generated world? Also I modified the world to be smaller, 100k blocks Edited April 27, 2020 by Stefano Da Giau
